Horace Mann School Brings the Royal Shakespeare Company's Educational Techniques to Area Teachers
Tuesday, July 03, 2018
The sound of Shakespeare's sonnets and soliloquies sang out from Horace Mann School classrooms, stages and stairwells, from June 18-22, 2018, as students and teachers practiced the Royal Shakespeare Company's (RSC) unique method of learning and teaching the works of the Bard. HM's 2018 RSC Teacher Training Conference marked the fourth consecutive year that Horace Mann School has invited teachers and students from area schools to participate in workshops led by RSC actor-educators, together with HM students and teachers. The Teacher Training Conference is part of the ongoing partnership that Horace Mann School launched in 2015 with the RSC – the acclaimed British theater company. To read more, click the title link.

Horace Mann School's Fifth Graders Move on Toward Middle
Saturday, June 16, 2018
June 8, 2018 marked the end of the elementary school years for the 86 fifth graders in Horace Mann School's Lower Division who commemorated this academic right-of-passage with a graduation ceremony on the stage of the School's Gross Hall Theater. A majority of the students will continue on to HM's Middle Division. The students celebrated with a program of songs sung in French and Spanish, along with a selection of popular hits, rewritten by several of the homerooms, together with their teachers, to include lyrics reflective of their fifth grade year. It was a remarkable year, for this was a remarkable class, according to HM Lower Division Head Deena Neuwirth, Fifth Grade Team Leader Sandy Rubenstein, and the homeroom teachers who announced their students' names before each walked across the stage to receive their diplomas from Neuwirth, and shake hands with Horace Mann Head of School Dr. Tom Kelly. Horace Mann School Middle Division Celebrates 'Middle Memories'
Friday, June 15, 2018
Horace Mann School's 2018 "Middle Memories," which annually marks the HM eighth grade's transition from the Middle Division to high school, was indeed an occasion to remember. Held under the large white tent on HM's Alumni Field on June 7, 2018, the morning was filled with reflections both sad and sweet, along with heartfelt wishes for each students' future. As the 151 Middle Division graduates came to the stage one "Advisory" class after another, the roll call of names was punctuated with performances by Middle Division ensembles, including the Theatre Games Class; the Eighth Grade Strings; the Eighth Grade Steel Drums Classes; members of the cast of "13"—a musical presented by the Middle Division earlier in the year; the Eighth Grade Band; the Dance Ensemble; and eighth grade members of the Middle Division Chorus.
