What does ICIE do?
ICIE hosts the Fall and Spring Family Gatherings. These all-school community events bring together current and prospective families to enjoy a meal amidst good company and in a relaxed on-campus atmosphere. They are a celebration of the diversity of the school and two of the many ways in which the HM community comes together for a shared experience.
ICIE provides professional development, group discussion facilitation, resources and support for curriculum development to faculty/staff and students. The office works closely with the parent alliance groups that are based on racial and ethnic identities, oversees student affinity groups and helps to connect the HM community to the many diversity-related resources available in the community. ICIE is also responsible for HM SEED, a professional development program for faculty/staff that encourages and supports the use of inclusive pedagogy in the classroom.
What does ICIE hope to accomplish?
It is our hope to support the HM community to thrive on and benefit from the rich diversity present in the HM community. ICIE strives:
- to engage the community in a deeper understanding of the value of diversity in the Horace Mann School education and experience,
- to foster and sustain meaningful dialogue within the HM community to support, affirm and recognize diverse perspectives,
- to examine the diverse and multicultural nature of our community,
- to actively listen and facilitate conversations and dialogue that can lead to purposeful action and further our school mission and core values.
