Saturday Morning Tutoring
For over five decades the Saturday Morning Tutoring Program has provided free peer tutoring to students in grades 5-8. The Saturday Morning Tutoring Program pairs Upper Division student volunteers from Horace Mann with Middle Division students from public and parochial schools in the Bronx and nearby neighborhoods. The goal of the program is to establish a strong and productive relationship between each tutor and tutee so they can work through the year (approximately 22 Saturday mornings) first to identify skills that need to be strengthened, and then to enrich the education of the tutees. Tutors arrive at 9:30 to prepare for the day, look over new material, and have a chance to ask about individual tutees. The tutees work from 10:00 AM to 11:40 and then break for a communal time where pizza is served and all can relax for 20 minutes before pick-up.
We hope that this program will instill a love of learning for both the tutees and tutors and help everyone fulfill their potential as students, teachers, and educated citizens.
