Curricular Initiatives

HM Social Artists have incorporated a range of Social Artistry practices into their curriculum and classroom activities. (Deep Listening, The Bell of Focus and Honoring, Self-Portraiture, Imaginative Reflection). These have deepened the levels of student reflection, focus and creativity.

The Horace Mann Revue is one powerful example. In its 125th year Horace Mann School celebrated, in part, by promoting “The Horace Mann Revue.” A mixture of dance, music, and song, the production explored the rich history and the mythology of this great institution. Students researched the school archives and drew from alumni interviews to write scenes and monologues that captured the spiritual essence of our school while outlining its evolution since 1887. The process of creation, the performance of the story and the reaction of the audience all combined to provide an important moment in the life of Horace Mann.
