125th Anniversary Celebration FAQ

 

Will there be an HMPA Benefit or an Alumni Council Benefit this year?
No. This celebration party is the only chance to celebrate Horace Mann School’s 125th anniversary and will take the place of the annual Parents Association Benefit and the annual Alumni Council Benefit. The Parents Association and Alumni Council elected to forgo their annual benefits so that the entire school community can celebrate this historic occasion together.

Will there be a Live Auction and Silent Auction?
No. The party is intended to be a celebratory get-together, rather than a fundraiser. We want this to be a celebration! There will be NO Live Auction and NO Silent Auction at the event. However, there will be a community-wide online auction in the weeks leading up to the event.   Please check for e-blasts leading up to the event.

Will there be dinner and dancing?
The party will be catered by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Events. There will be cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, a sit-down dinner, plus desserts and dancing until 11:30 p.m.

Who will be invited?
We are sending out 14,000 printed invitations to parents, grandparents, alumni, parents of alumni, as well as current and former faculty and staff. Attendees must be 21 years of age or older. There will be seating for a maximum of 2,000 guests. Due to space limitations walk-ins will NOT be permitted so please RSVP early!

How much will tickets cost?
Tickets will cost $125 per ticket. Event tickets are priced to allow as many HM community members to attend as possible. Please consider underwriting and/or sponsoring one or more faculty or staff. Underwriting starts at $1,125 which entitles you to two tickets, one page in the Commemorative Journal and an invitation to a pre-party champagne toast. 
  
Will there be Tuition Raffle Tickets on sale?
Yes. You can purchase raffle tickets online or when you RSVP or during the cocktail portion of the evening. There will be no separate mailing containing raffle tickets.

What are the transportation and parking arrangements?
Buses will be provided to and from Manhattan. Once the invitations are sent out in early March, attendees will be able to reserve seats online at www.horacemann.org/125. Parking will be available at Manhattan College and shuttle buses will be provided. There will also be specified drop off locations.

What is the Commemorative Journal?
There will be a Commemorative Journal distributed on the night of the event. Pages will cost $125 and we hope that all members of the community will take the opportunity to send a message of congratulations or celebration to the school or its community on this historic milestone.

Will there be any fundraising on the night of?
Yes. This party is a celebration of the past 125 years, but it is also an event to strengthen our community for the future. We will be conducting a reverse auction during the evening to support the school’s Financial Aid and Student Assistance Fund. 

How can I help?
Volunteers are needed on Friday, May 18 and/or Saturday, May 19 to set up for the party and also on the night of the event in many different areas. Please contact Ellen Bender at ellennsam@aol.com or Sunita Munshani at munshani@yahoo.com.
