Employment

Founded in 1887, Horace Mann School is a coeducational, college preparatory independent day school for students from Nursery through Grade 12. The School has campuses in Manhattan and the Bronx, as well as a 320-acre outdoor education center in Washington, CT. With more than 1,800 students enrolled, Horace Mann School is among the largest independent day schools in the nation.

We seek potential teachers who are devoted to students, who can make their subject accessible and exciting to them, and who will make a contribution to our School community both inside and outside the classroom. We want members of our Staff who are good at their jobs, care about our students, and create the right kinds of relationship with them. We offer many opportunities for personal and professional growth. We expect all community members to know and represent our School's mission and core values.

We value and actively seek diversity in both our student body and among the adults who serve the School. Our community draws from 140+ zip codes, primarily representing Manhattan, The Bronx, New Jersey, Westchester, and Connecticut. For the 2025-26 school year, 37% of School administrators, teachers, and staff members identified as race other than white and/or as Hispanic/Latine. Over the past five years, the School has recorded a 92% retention rate for all employees.

Horace Mann School is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin, veteran or disability status.
