Horace Mann School Students Shine at

NY Alliance Film Festival

Horace Mann School students captured top awards at the sixth annual NY Alliance Film Festival with films they produced in their film studies classes. The awards were announced in an online ceremony on June 25, 2021.

The NY Alliance Film Festival was launched in 2015 by Grace Church School History teacher Jason McDonald, together with film teachers from other independent schools. The festival's goal is to connect students from independent high schools throughout New York State who are interested in filmmaking. Seventy films were submitted to this year's competition. A panel of filmmaking teachers and experienced filmmakers served as judges.

HM rising senior Jayden Siegel '22 won the gold award in the Experimental category for his film "The Applicant." Aden Soroca '23 won silver for his film "A Journey Chasing Cheese" in the Mixed Genre competition. And, working collectively on their film "The Swap," Aidan Frank '24, Nathaniel Garelik '24, Matteo Stewart '24, Braden Queen '23, Stella Shah '22, Patrick Stinebaugh '22, Ethan Waggoner '22, and Madison Xu '23 captured bronze in the Music Video category.

"It was wonderful to see how accomplished our student filmmakers have become, after studying film production for only a short time, in class at HM," said Horace Mann Head of School Dr. Tom Kelly. "We're very proud of them, and excited about the success and growth of our vibrant film studies program."
