Spread of COVID-19 Delta Variant Impacts Plans for Homecoming and Reunions

In light of the continued spread of the highly contagious Delta variant, Horace Mann School unfortunately must cancel in-person reunions scheduled for October 9th. This decision was made in consultation with HM's medical advisors to protect the health of our alumni from across the generations who travel from near and far to celebrate with classmates, the employees who manage the reunion events, our administrators and faculty who attend, and the students they are responsible for teaching.

Nonetheless, we will not let this unexpected turn of events quell the ferocity of our collective Lion Pride! Since last year's virtual "Homecoming at Home" presentation and Zoom reunions were so successful, we are moving ahead with arrangements for a similar experience this year.

Our concept for Homecoming Day on October 9th consists of a virtual alumni experience featuring a variety of interesting presentations, including alumni interviews, panel discussions, and wellness classes such as yoga and meditation, among other programs. Later in the evening, reunion year alumni will have the opportunity to reconnect and reminisce at virtual class reunions on Zoom. (The Alumni Office is prepared to provide individualized tutorials to anyone who needs guidance on accessing and using Zoom.)

As of today, we are still scheduled to host athletics contests on campus but attendance will be limited to current students in Grades 7-12, and immediate family members. Campus will be closed to the larger HM community, including extended family, alumni, younger students in Grades N-6, former employees, and friends.

We are truly sorry for the disappointment this change in plans may cause, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding.
