Congratulations to James '26 on qualifying for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Boys Wrestling Championships, held in Albany at the end of February. The Varsity Wrestling captain represented Horace Mann School to compete at States, the pinnacle of wrestling in New York and where the best athletes wrestle for the title of state champion per each weight class. Qualifying to compete in the tournament and wrestle at the highest level is itself a major accomplishment.
James finished 2-2 at the NYSPHSAA championship, reaching the final 16 in his weight class. In the third round, he defeated the New York City champion for an impressive win.
Before competing at States, James had an impressive 39-5 record for the 2025-26 season. He finished second in the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) tournament, earned two Ivy League titles, and had two NYSAIS runner-up finishes.
