Naomi first learned about the HM Summer Internship Program as a student and continued applying after graduation because of the strength and variety of its opportunities. Now studying mathematics at Duke University with a minor in economics, she spent the summer as a finance analyst at Element Solutions, rotating through the tax, treasury, and accounting departments. Her work included analyzing financial statements, updating policies, researching peer companies, and participating in departmental meetings.

Among Naomi’s biggest takeaways were learning how to navigate a professional environment, take ownership of projects, and communicate effectively. She was also struck by how intentionally a company’s culture must be cultivated to bring together employees from different backgrounds. Her advice to future interns is to approach every opportunity ready to learn: ask questions, take notes, and consistently follow through on responsibilities.
