Ultimate Frisbee Reunion Wins the Fields *
On May 18, past and present members of the HM Ultimate Frisbee team gathered on campus for a reunion scrimmage. Over 20 alumni, accompanied by the current Varsity Ultimate team, spent the afternoon together reminiscing about their days on the team.
The gathering, which was planned by HM alumnus/coach Chris Nelson ’09 and the HM Athletics Department, took place on Four Acres under sunny skies and mild temperatures.
As part of the planning process for this inaugural game, over 50 alumni wrote in to express their interest in participating. Many shared how important ultimate had been to their Horace Mann experience.
These alumni have remained connected to their former teammates and said how excited they were to see one another at the reunion and connect with their coaches and players from other years. A few alumni even brought their families to watch the scrimmage and join in on the fun. The resounding message from those alums who were unable to attend was that they were excited about future reunions and hoped HM would host another event in the not-too-distant future.
* "Win the fields,” a term coined by Lou Burruss, refers to being the last team on the field at the end of a tournament or competition. Burruss, a former U.S. and world champion, was one of the most significant coaches in college ultimate.
