Jordan Roth ’93 Honored With

2022 Award for Distinguished Achievement

For the first time in two years, parents and alumni came together to honor a Horace Mann School graduate who exemplifies distinguished achievement in their chosen profession or field of talent. More than 200 guests who were present at the April 5th dinner in Tribeca joyfully celebrated Jordan Roth ’93, 2022 recipient of the Alumni Association’s Award for Distinguished Achievement.

Jordan Roth thanked his former teachers – Pasquale DeVito, Shirley Cannon-Walker, and Gerri Woods, among others – for nurturing his intellectual curiosity

Roth is a multi-faceted creator and thought-leader across the worlds of theater and fashion. He is a six-time Tony Award-winning producer and president of Jujamcyn Theaters where he has championed some of the most influential and successful shows on Broadway including Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Hadestown, Kinky Boots, Springsteen on Broadway, and The Book of Mormon. He also produced the 2018 Tony Award-winning revival of Angels in America and the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning Best Play Clybourne Park.

Roth’s accomplishments as a Broadway producer, human rights advocate, fashion icon, and mentor to HM students were recognized and lauded from the podium by Head of School Dr. Tom Kelly P ’18 and Alumni Council President Samantha Brand ’01 P ’26 ’29. As Brand recounted, the goal of the Award for Distinguished Achievement Committee in presenting this annual award is “to highlight the diversity of perspectives, backgrounds, experiences and professions that comprise our HM community.” She continued:

Jordan Roth thanked his former teachers – Pasquale DeVito, Shirley     Cannon-Walker, and Gerri Woods, among others – for nurturing his     intellectual curiosity

From the risers of the Lower Division cafeteria to the presidency of Jujamcyn Theaters, Jordan has transformed Broadway. The shows Jordan has championed are gifts to our culture that have brought us rapture, laughter, and thought-provoking joy in the darkest of times.

The recipient of the Award for Distinguished Achievement is selected annually by the Alumni Council, on behalf of the Alumni Association.
