Lions “Go for the Gold” at Homecoming -- Alumni Reconnect at Reunions

An idyllic fall day provided the picture-perfect setting for Homecoming 2024. The October 19th event featured HM’s fall athletes in various contests on the fields, courts, and pool. An estimated 4,000-plus guests – alumni, students, parents and guardians, faculty and staff, and neighbors – came to campus to cheer our Lions on while enjoying all of the customary attractions of an HM Homecoming – swag, a delicious BBQ lunch, sweet treats, and family-friendly games.

In the athletic contests, varsity football enjoyed a huge upset against King and Low-Heywood Thomas School with a score of 19 - 16. Varsity water polo was victorious against Fieldston, winning 15-11, while varsity girls tennis routed The Masters School with a score of 5-0. Field hockey, boys soccer, girls soccer, and girls volleyball all lost to their Fieldston counterparts despite valiant efforts on all fronts.

Homecoming is, first and foremost, an alumni celebration, and one of the ways HM honors alumni is with a 50th Reunion Luncheon on campus. More than a dozen members of the Class of 1974 gathered in Dr. Tom Kelly’s yard to enjoy good food and great conversation before walking across the street to enjoy the Homecoming festivities. The event offered alumni celebrating their “Golden Anniversary” a chance to reconnect, see the campus, and hear from Dr. Tom Kelly.

As part of the celebration, HM student ambassadors led two tours for alumni that highlighted updates to the campus. In turn, alumni eagerly shared how different parts of the campus had changed since they attended. Alumni then had the opportunity to gather and find one another during an “Alumni Coffee Break” under the main tent before the football game began. The Homecoming festivities concluded with the annual Dan Alexander ’49 Alumni Soccer Game, where former varsity soccer players could relive their glory days through a friendly scrimmage.

Three generations of the Lowe family took part in the Dan Alexander '49 Alumni Soccer Game.

Later that evening, a terrific time was had by all at the five-year milestone reunions celebration at Pier 60 in Manhattan. Hundreds of alums representing the Classes of 1964, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019 gathered to reminisce and reconnect. (Note: The Classes of 1959 and 1969 celebrated their reunions at separate gatherings.)

The Alumni Office is thankful to everyone who came out and made it a memorable Homecoming and Reunions Celebration, and can’t wait to see everyone back in 2029 for their next reunion!
