Bernie Lee ’88 and his mixed doubles partner Michele Tezduyar captured the Massachusetts State Pickleball Championship at the 2024 Massachusetts Senior Games in September. First held in 1991, these annual games feature competitions in over 25 sports, one of which is pickleball. Lee, who was crowned the singles champion of the National Senior Games in 2023, is the head pickleball pro at Life Time Fitness Boston Metrowest in Framingham, MA. Tezduyar, who is one of his prized students, joined forces with Lee to create a formidable mixed doubles partnership.

To secure the gold medal, the pair played in a round robin format comprised of multiple teams with each match played to 15 points with a two-point margin of victory. After their win, Lee reflected, “Michele played an incredible match, especially when it mattered the most. In mixed doubles, many teams target the woman player and this match was no exception. When we were facing numerous match points, Michele made sure to play errorless pickleball, allowing us to come back and win this critical match,” stated Lee emphatically.
