Applying to Grades 1-5

The Lower Division campus in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx welcomes approximately 460 children for Kindergarten through Grade 5. The Lower Division campus occupies the site of the former Barnard School, and the main building houses classrooms, the library, gymnasium, cafeteria, arts and technology center, music room, music annex, nurse's office, modern language classrooms, literacy center, math center, science center, and administrative offices. Outdoor facilities include the "Grasshopper" field (a synthetic play surface), large playground, Butterfly Hill, and the O'Neill Arboretum. Two of the Kindergarten sections are housed in freestanding "cottages" next to the main building.

Following the completion of fifth grade in the Lower Division, students continue to sixth grade at the Middle Division, whose Bronx campus is located down the street. Once a child is admitted to Horace Mann School, they do not need to re-apply from one year to the next.
