History of American Musical Theatre -- Appreciation

This course covers the history of the American Musical from its origins in Operetta, Vaudeville, and Burlesque to its contemporary and recognizable form on Broadway. We will listen to, read, and watch examples from, and talk about Broadway shows of the past and present. Activities include: class discussions; critiques; exercises in casting, marketing, design, and production; presentations on genre, persona, and notable productions; field trips to current Broadway shows (with permission).

This course is open to all rising 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders.

Horace Mann students will receive one half-credit for this course.

This course runs full day from Tuesday, June 20 - Friday, July 7, 2023, 9:00am-3:00pm.
