Physical Education

Because many students are three-season athletes, or are enrolled in Dance PE, finding time in a student's schedule to complete the requirements for Health and CPR prove difficult. These one-week courses fulfill graduation requirements and allow students some flexibility in scheduling.


ARC Lifeguarding Certification/CPR 

Students will learn the skills necessary to assist in the prevention of injury and care for those in and around water and provides training for employment as a lifeguard. Students will learn safety and rescue techniques and response to critical care, including the skill set for CPR/AED(rescue breathing, first aid, and CPR with AED). Students must be 15 years of age and able to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes and complete a timed 10 pound brick retrieval assessment. Students will fulfill their CPR/AED graduation requirement while earning a certification from the American Red Cross as a Lifeguard. 

This course is open to rising 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students.

This course runs for one week, full day from June 20 - June 23, 2023 from 9:00am-3:00pm.

Health

The Summer Health Education curriculum provides an intensive interactive forum to understand health issues. As students acquire knowledge and obtain skills, they gain the self-confidence and sense of responsibility necessary for making decisions that affect their quality of life. Health Education includes lectures, research, role-playing, guest speakers, written and oral reports, movies, hands on activities and interactive group discussions. The skills students learn form a basis for exploration in areas such as health and wellness, behavior change, substance use and misuse, sexuality and sexual health, relationships, stress, sleep, mental health, nutrition, and disease risk reduction.

Rising 9th and 10th graders will meet in the morning session, from 9:00am-11:30am.

Rising 11th and 12th graders will meet in the afternoon session, from 12:30pm-3:00pm.

This course runs for one week from Tuesday, June 20 - Friday, June 23, 2023.

CPR/AED with First Aid for the Professional Rescuer

Students will learn how to provide first aid in emergencies. This certification course integrates the lifesaving skills of rescue breathing, first aid for choking, CPR with AED. Students will learn these skills through videos, lectures, and hands on skill-building.

There will be separate morning and afternoon sections. The morning section will meet from 9:00am-11:30am, and the afternoon section will meet from 12:30pm-3:00pm. Both sections are open to rising 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders.

This course runs for one week from Tuesday, June 20 - Friday, June 23, 2023.
