Thank you for your interest in Horace Mann School. The Life at Horace Mann Student Ambassador Blog is designed to give our students the chance to share their Lion Pride. In this blog you'll find posts from our Student Ambassadors, other students as 'guest bloggers,' and even the occasional faculty or staff blogger. We hope you'll check back often for updates.
Over Winter Break the Horace Mann Varsity Basketball team and Varsity Swim team went to Florida for trips filled with training and competition. For the first time, the basketball team ventured to Orlando where they trained and also played in tournaments with Florida high school teams, while the Swim Team headed to Fort Lauderdale for its annual training trip. These trips are not only a great way for teams to practice and get in shape but also are a great bonding experience that brings teammates closer together. The Basketball and Swim team, and all of the other winter sport teams, are ready to continue the rest of their winter season! Go Lions!
Standing at 4-1, HM Football is on a roll. Led by the seniors, the players have become a close-knit team and look unstoppable. Just a couple of weeks ago, the Lions dominated Harvey in front of the whole school at Homecoming, winning triumphantly. The next week they followed with an intense victory over longtime rivals, Dalton, coming back down 21-8 with under 7:00 left and pulled out a clutch win, 22-21. The season has been perfectly described by my friend Davis: “we are reviving the HM Football legacy by starting a new chapter.”
Today, HM had a pep rally for its annual Homecoming tomorrow. All the teams' captains came on stage to cheers and encouraged everyone to come out and support the lions tomorrow. The pep rally ended with a preview of the HM Spirit Squad's homecoming routine. Homecoming looks like it's going to be an amazing day.
This weekend is Homecoming and the entire school is preparing to show some school spirit. Even my English class has something planned for the event. My senior poetry class is planning to have a poetry writing booth at homecoming where people can have us write poetry for them. I think it's a great idea because it will definitely improve our "on the fly" poetry writing skills and it’s a fun addition to all the school spirit. After all, there can never be too many " GO LIONS!" poems!
This past Friday, the varsity field hockey team had an amazing win against the Masters School. The final score was 8-1. We are, so far, undefeated which is HUGE for us!! We are all so excited for the game against Riverdale in 2 days! Everyone on the team has a great time this season and we hope to keep up our great record and to keep having fun!! We're hoping to see lots of fans at the Four Acres field for Homecoming on October 13th!! GO LIONS!!
Last week, the Boys’ Varsity Soccer team had their first game against Columbia Prep on the Main Field and beat their rivals 5-2! Girls’ Varsity Soccer follows that up with their own win against Poly Prep on Main Field! Throughout the fall season, the Horace Mann girls and boys sports teams will be competing against their Ivy League rivals either on the field, in the gym, on the track, or in the pool. I can’t wait until October 13th, when Horace Mann will host its annual Homecoming, a great day of sporting events and festivities. All of the different schedules are on the Athletics website, so I‘ll see you out there, cheering on the lions!! WOO!
