A Message from Dr. Kelly
What a treat it is for me to lead such a talented bunch at this colorful time of year. With the campus in full bloom, May begins the process of celebrating a year's worth of accomplishments by students, faculty, parents and alumni. From the healthy sense of community captured at this year's PA Benefit, to the beat of our first student-driven steel drums concert, to the joy of watching our littlest of lions come together to play together at this year's carnival, there is indeed much to be proud of and much to give thanks for.
As Head of School, one of my greatest privileges is to honor two members of the faculty each May for teaching excellence. Nothing at Horace Mann is more important than the quality of the instructional experience crafted for the students we serve. While the next issue of Across the Divisions will provide in-depth coverage of this year's awardees, I thought it would be appropriate to share a portion of my remarks from Wednesday's event. Information, News & Events
The Horace Mann School has always been fortunate to have active and involved parents who come together through the HMPA to volunteer and organize a variety of activities during the school year. We encourage your participation in the PA at any level, as your involvement is a source of pride to our children. It is also a great way to get to know the school and to strengthen the bonds within our community. Please submit your volunteer form by May 17.

Camping with Dorr Continued >>
It was a cloudy and drizzly day, but the Nursery Division 4’s, their teachers and some helper parents arrived in Riverdale to go camping. The staff from Dorr, Glenn, Becky, Casey, and Russ, were all there to greet our enthusiastic group under the big tent on the side lawn of Dr. Kelly’s house.
With the school year rushing towards the finish, we try to slow things down and take the time to feast our eyes on the beauty around us. That’s an easy thing to do these days, because everywhere you look, the Lower Division campus is in bloom. Continued >>
What does it mean to be a leader in the Middle Division? At the most recent Conversation with Robin, Eva Abbamonte, Lynne Hirschhorn and Wendy Reiter presented leadership opportunities for students to attending parents. Continued >>
At Horace Mann, April and May are the fastest months and in some ways, the best; May is perhaps even faster and even better than April. As the weather turns warm and sunny (and don't we deserve a break from the winter we endured!) the school year hurtles toward its conclusion. Continued >>
The focus of the program is the study of stream ecology, and the collection of aquatic invertebrates to help determine the water quality of the Dorr stream. View scenes at Dorr >>
