Costs:

6-Week Full Credit Science Program: $4,050
5-Week Full Credit Course: $3,370
5-Week Half Credit Course: $1,920

Note: All Science Lab courses meet full days during the summer for six weeks.

To help all families cope with current financial hardships, Horace Mann School is keeping tuition  rates the same as last year for our academic program. We hope this will allow students who need or want to take Summer School to do so. A non-refundable deposit of $500 is required with the enrollment application. The tuition fee is payable in full when billed, prior to the start of the summer session. Students will not be permitted to attend classes until tuition is remitted in full. Horace Mann School reserves the right to cancel courses or programs at any time. Cancelations will be posted on the website.

Those Horace Mann students awarded yearly financial aid may apply for financial aid for the summer session. Unfortunately, financial aid is not available for non-Horace Mann students.

Lunches may be purchased in the student cafeteria. Fare consists of sandwiches, soup, beverages and desserts. Students may bring their own lunch to school.

Door to door transportation from Manhattan only is provided to Horace Mann by SuperTrans Inc. in Yonkers, NY from selected areas for an additional fee; traditionally we have not had enough students from New Jersey or Westchester attending Summer School to run a bus from these areas. All information on costs and routes for Summer 2013 is available directly from SuperTrans. Parents wishing to take advantage of transportation should be in direct contact with SuperTrans at 914-968-3300. SuperTrans will make every effort to accommodate transportation requests. In the event that they are unable to provide transportation to a particular location, families will be notified, and the transportation fee will be refunded in full.

Registration

To download an application form, please go to the Summer School Application page after Friday, February 1, 2013. Applications will be accepted starting on Friday, March 1st.

Registration may be submitted by mail or in person until Friday, June 7th for Science courses  and the US History Survey course and until Friday, June 14th for all 5-week academic courses. Each registration form must be submitted with a non-refundable deposit of $500.

By Monday, June 10th we will be able to determine if all Six Week Academic courses are running and this information will be posted to the Summer School web page by that afternoon; in the event a course is cancelled due to low registration, families will be called, but do check the web page, too. All courses require at least four enrolled students in order to run. By Monday, June 17th we will be able to determine which 5-week Academic courses are running.

Please note that some courses fill up immediately after they are posted. Students and parents are encouraged to fill out the application as soon as possible if a student's summer plans hinge on getting into a course and to drop off the application directly to the business office as soon after March 1st as possible.

All reasonable efforts will be made to place a student in his or her first choice of classes. If this is not possible due to course scheduling or cancelation, the alternate selection will be used. In the rare case that a student's choices are not able to be scheduled, the student will be notified of that situation.

In some cases, placement tests are given to ensure a child's correct placement into a course.

Course Withdrawal Policy

Course Withdrawals, Five and Six Week Academic Programs:

Under no circumstances is the $500 deposit refundable.

• Students who withdraw from courses one week prior to the start date or earlier will forfeit their non-refundable deposit, but will receive a refund for the remainder of the tuition.
• Students who withdraw within one week of but prior to the start date will receive a 75% refund.
• Students who withdraw within the first five days of the course will receive a 50% refund.
• Students who withdraw within the sixth and tenth day of the course will receive a 25% refund.
• Withdrawals after the tenth day of the course will not receive a refund.
