Academic Programs and Curriculum

Horace Mann School strives to fulfill the purposes of the Mission Statement and Core Values through the following with respect to Program:

  • Combine nurture and rigor in the academic program.
  • Develop a consensus among the faculty from Nursery through the Upper Division as to what constitutes excellent teaching.
  • Balance breadth and depth in course offerings and in course content.
  • Maintain strong offerings in traditional disciplines while encouraging creative curricular innovation in interdisciplinary and experiential learning.
  • Offer a continuum of adult professional support for students that enables them to meet the intellectual, personal, and ethical challenges of each stage of their development.
  • Expand community service and service-learning opportunities in the Bronx, New York City, and beyond.
  • Support the arts as central self-expressive disciplines.
  • Pay attention to the human face of the daily schedule.
  • Participate in the Advanced Placement program at a high level while seeking out additional opportunities for students to demonstrate excellence in their academic preparation for college-level work.
