Ivan Arroyo is a member of the Army Reserve National Guard who was deployed to Kandhar, Afghanistan from August 2012 to July 2013. A Yonkers, N.Y. resident for 41 years, he and his wife Caroline have lived in public housing since the 1980s, raising their four children there, while ever dreaming of having a home of their own. That dream is now a reality, thanks, in large part, to Horace Mann School's work with Habitat for Humanity to both sponsor and build that home. For a group of HMers, who gathered with the Arroyo family, Habitat for Humanity of Westchester leaders and volunteers, and other U.S. Armed Forces veterans outside 54 Purser Place in Yonkers on November 11, 2015, this day – Veterans Day – provided the perfect opportunity to participate in this national observance, and also celebrate the completion of the house at that address.
