Horace Mann has an excellent academic reputation. The Middle and Upper School academic programs provide a balanced liberal arts education that combines a strong traditional curriculum with new and innovative courses. Courses for students in the Middle School (grade 6-8) facilitate the transition to more advanced study. Middle School students are required to participate in music or visual arts, community service, and interscholastic or intramural athletics. Upper School students continue those requirements in a more independently focused curriculum which offers students the opportunity to explore specific interests while continuing to expand their horizons. Computer mastery courses are required each year, and students apply these skills through technology use in all subject areas. Moderate class size, active participation in all student activities, and a plan of individual counseling serve to fulfil the school's commitment to its educational philosophy.
